This weekend’s warm weather forecast could potentially close Logan’s Merlin Olsen Central Park ice rink.

“Depending on what the weather brings,” said Russ Akina, director of Logan City Parks and Recreation, “we may close the rink.”

This winter season the park has been closed once and was reopened on Thursday.

Rain is predicted for Friday and Saturday with temperatures up to 37 degrees Fahrenheit. Although the park will still be accessible, in the event of a its closure, banners will be posted over the rental skate facility as well as signs at the entrance of the rink. Residents are asked to stay off the ice until the park announces it’s reopening.

“We hope that people will comply with that for the benefit for everyone,” Akina said. “The whole idea is to have a good experience with good ice conditions.”

Merlin Olsen Central Park’s ice rink has been a local tradition for years. “Generations have grown up with the tradition for decades. When the conditions present themselves we try to do that," Akina said.

Russell Smart, a Logan resident who lives near the park, was happy to see the park reopen earlier in the season. “It’s so fun to see everyone skating in the evening,” he said.

Updated information as the week progresses can be found on the City of Logan's Facebook page or at (435) 716-9250.
