On Friday, Cherry Peak Resort announced a new promotion benefiting season pass holders of resorts in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho. With a valid season pass from any resort in the those states, season pass holders will receive a day or night pass for $5. The promotion is applicable Monday through Thursday and excludes all holidays.

“We are a new resort and we want others to get a chance to experience us,” said Sherri Austin, a Cherry Peak resort team member. “We have some of the best beginner terrain in Northern Utah but its hard to get people to break the mold and try a new ski resort."

Jaden Martin holds season passes at Snowbasin Resort, Brian Head Resort, Sun Valley Ski Resort and Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Martin has had season passes at Snowbasin and Brain Head for the past five years. This year he bought season passes at resorts outside of normal resort preferences in addition to his Snowbasin Resort and Brain Head Resort.

“I’ve heard a little about Cherry Peak but have never been there,” Martin said. “I like bigger resorts. If I ever do go though, it will be with friends who are just learning to snowboard. And I would definitely take advantage of my season passes to get in.”

Cherry Peak Resort is Utah’s newest ski resort, located in Richmond, Utah. This year marks its grand opening to skiers, snowboarders and tubers alike. Beaver Mountain Resort stands as Cherry Peaks’ only competition in the valley and has been open since 1939.

"We have struggled to get people to try out our resort. We hope that this deal will get some new skiiers and snowboarders hooked on Cherry Peak like we are," Austin said.

“I think it’s a good idea. I’m just not sure how many people will actually try out a smaller lesser-known resort like Cherry Peak when they already have a preference. Season passes are expensive so when you choose a resort it’s usually one that you really enjoy," said Daryn Aldred, a ski instructor at Sundance Mountain Resort, in Provo, Utah. "Sundance is small, but convenient for those of us in Utah Valley. Maybe Cherry Peak can be that way for Cache Valley but they’ll always have competition with Beaver Mountain.”

Scott Thomas and his family of seven have had season passes to Alta for almost ten years. Thomas' second son plans to move to Logan this coming fall to study at Utah State University. "Cherry Peak is new and small compared to Alta, but it's cool that Zach's going to be able to ski with us at Alta on the weekends and then he can ski in Cache Valley for almost nothing when he has time. That's a great deal. Who knows, maybe we'll go up a time or two to check it out and ski with him," Thomas said.

"That's the goal," said Austin. "Everyone needs to try out Cherry Peak because it really is a great place to ski or snowboard."

Cherry Peak Resort will continue to allow $5 admission to season pass holders for the remainder of this year’s season, hoping attract new customers.
